From Steep Terrain to Extraordinary Living

New-Build Development in Herrliberg
When you stand in the dining room of this new-build development in Herrliberg today and look out across Lake Zurich, everything appears effortless: the shimmering reflections on the water, the clean architectural lines, the sense of tranquility. Yet this impression of ease is deceiving. The starting point was a site that was anything but easy: one of the steepest hillside plots on Zurich’s Gold Coast.
While the location itself gave the property its exceptional quality: From early morning until late evening, sunlight moves across the slope, while the views stretch over Lake Zurich all the way to the Alps on the horizon. The hillside brought its own challenges: there were no level surfaces and none of the logistical access routes a conventional construction site would typically require.
“The thoughtful transformation of the terrain made it possible to realise an exceptional residential development.“
Tobias Reinhardt.
The result is an architectural concept that responds naturally to its setting while delivering the quality and living comfort we set out to achieve.
Construction Process
It was not only our architecture that had to adapt to the terrain, but the entire construction process as well. As there was no space for traditional loading zones or temporary storage areas and the significant differences in elevation made it impossible to rely on a single excavator. Therefore creative solutions were essential: two excavators worked in tandem. While one excavated material directly from the slope, the other received it and prepared it for removal from the site.
As construction of the structural shell progressed, the challenges remained. Space constraints allowed for almost no handling or staging areas, while deliveries had to be coordinated via a narrow private access road that needed to remain unobstructed at all times. As a result, the crane assumed a far more important role than on a typical construction project. While they are usually dismantled once the structural works are complete, the crane at Pure Pearl remained in operation until the very last garden planting had been completed.
The Effort Was Worth It
From the garden apartment with its private pool to the penthouse featuring two terraces, a total of four lake-view residences were created.
Every detail was selected together with the future owners. The result is a collection of homes distinguished not only by premium materials, but also by the individual character and personal preferences of those who live in them.
„Architecture provides the framework; the owner give the homes its individual character.“
Tobias Reinhardt.
A Commitment to Quality
The ambition to create individual retreats with exceptional living quality, seamlessly extends into the outdoor spaces. Carefully curated planting and thoughtfully designed private areas create a distinctive sense of calm, privacy and exclusivity throughout the development.
Details
Quality reveals itself in the details: in the selection of the planting concept and in the precision of the craftsmanship. The outdoor environment is therefore not merely an addition to the building, but an integral part of an overall concept that respects the character of the site while enhancing it.
Conclusion
«A project of this quality can only come to life when everyone involved shares the same vision and works towards it with true dedication», concludes Tobias Reinhardt. «I would like to thank our entire team, as well as all planners, contractors and partners whose commitment and passion made a significant contribution to the success of Pure Pearl.»
